Jane Dodds has expressed huge concern about the recent changes to the cash machine at the Post Office in Hay-on-Wye.
The cash machine is mounted on the exterior of the Post Office and is the only 24-hour cash facility in the town.
Until recently the service was free to use but has now changed to costing 99p per transaction.
With there being no banks left in the town this Cashpoint is the only way for Hay residents to access cash outside of working hours, without having to travel out of town.
Jane Dodds said:
"I'm really concerned about the recent changes to the cash machine in Hay. This cash machine is a real lifeline for the town and is the only way for people to access cash outside working hours without having to travel.
"Charging people to access their own money will only hurt our local businesses, especially those that do not accept card payments, and penalise older individuals who often rely upon cash but cannot necessarily travel out of town to get it.
"The people of Hay deserve better. I will be writing to the company who operates the Cash Machine to express my concerns. I will also be campaigning to have this transaction fee scrapped, as Hay residents deserve free access to their own money."
